"What is Fishroom?"
Fishroom is an interactive
discussion area for people who are interested in or actively pursuing the
hobby of aquarium keeping. The creator of Fishroom is Kevin Carpenter, who
is a systems manager in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Kevin has a 5000 gal. Reef
tank himself. Go to http://www.seaplace.org/~kevinc for more info on that.
Fishroom came into being on June 1, 1995. The original rooms consisted
of the Freshwater, Saltwater, Marketplace and Technical Rooms. It has since
grown to encompass many specialty rooms such as reefs, marine breeding, cichlids,
livebearers, plants and catfish rooms, just to name a few.
To connect to Fishroom, it is necessary to have a Telnet client program.
The address is fishroom.seaplace.org (66.128.118.38) now on the normal telnet port 23.
The are several on the internet. Most browsers come with a raw Telnet program
but we would recommend getting a full fledged Telnet program from the internet.
There are several to chose from no matter what kind of computer you are running.
For computers running Windows 95, most Fishroom users recommend Gmud and for
those using Windows 3.x, we recommend using Zmud. If you wish to check out
other options for telnet clients they are many to chose from. See our "How
to Connect" page for more detailed instructions on various software and methods
to use for accessing Fishroom.
